New weekly jobless claims came in at 218,000 against just 200,000 expected and after 197,000.

The Philadelphia Fed's manufacturing index fell in May to 2.6 from a forecast of 16 and from 17.6 in April.

The board of directors of the airline Spirit Airlines (- 1.57% to 19.09) urged its shareholders to reject the unsolicited offer from Jetblue Airways (+ 3.43% to 10.26).

The  Dow Jones  thus lost 0.75% to 31,253.13 points, the  Nasdaq Composite 0.26% to 11,388.50 points and the  S&P 500 0.58% to 3,900.79 points.
