GOVERNMENTS START TO LIKE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS
The COVID pandemic has set a precedent for governments around the world to implement the most draconian measures to prevent industry and keep people at home. Some governments even use high-tech surveillance systems to track citizens.
China, a new coronavirus country, has already implemented large-scale surveillance systems before the pandemic. Last year, Bitcoinist announced a social credit system in China that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and a huge network of surveillance cameras with face recognition for police citizens. People get a rating for their behavior, which can result in fines or rewards depending on the rating. Although the dragon system has been tested in various regions, the government will adopt it nationally in the coming years and is likely to collect data on the blockchain. President Xi Jinping has already praised the technology, which has surprised the cryptocurrency community.
Recently, Israel has been straining its muscles and using anti-terrorism technology to track down suspects. There is even an application where people can check on the map where infected people are at any time.
The Trump administration seems to want to use a surveillance system similar to Israel, but the White House is worried about people's reactions.
Even in the absence of a tracking system, governments have taken decisive action. Although the threat of the virus is serious, it is disturbing that governments will not give up their power after the pandemic ends. Former CIA agent Edward Snowden, who exposed American espionage methods, believes surveillance states should stay here.
He told Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival:
„When we see emergency measures passed, particularly today, they tend to be sticky. The emergency tends to be expanded. Then the authorities become comfortable with some new power. They start to like it.“
BESIDES BLOCKCHAIN, CRYPTO ITSELF CAN BE CORRUPTED BY CENTRAL BANKS
Along with blockchain, the cryptocurrency concept is likely to turn against us. Earlier this week, Democrats in the House of Representatives proposed two bills to create a cryptocurrency-like digital dollar to be released by the Fed. New virtual currency can be sent directly to individuals and companies, something the Fed has never done before.
But privacy advocates are unhappy with the stable dollar gift issued by the Fed, as it can literally destroy physical money for years to come and allow the government to fully control the finances of individuals.
In addition, it can become a global phenomenon as large central banks around the world are seriously considering issuing digital currencies. Bank of England, Bank of Japan, Bank of Canada and others have even formed an analysis center to develop the concept. Such a pandemic will certainly encourage them to get rid of their money as quickly as possible, but that does not mean that we will benefit.
ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION ANTICIPATED SNOWDEN’S CONCERNS 10 YEARS AGO
Conspiracy theories that saw the pandemic were spotted by governments ten years before the onset of SARS crisis.
2010 The Rockefeller Foundation, a globalization-oriented foundation, mimicked a global pandemic in a paper entitled "Future scenarios for technology and international development." The document reads:
„The United States’s initial policy of “strongly discouraging” citizens from flying proved deadly in its leniency, accelerating the spread of the virus not just within the US but across borders. However, a few countries did fare better — China in particular. The Chinese government’s quick imposition and enforcement of mandatory quarantine for all citizens, as well as its instant and near-hermetic sealing off of all borders, saved millions of lives, stopping the spread of the virus far earlier than in other countries and enabling a swifter post-pandemic recovery.“
The simulation hints that Western democracies were initially reluctant to impose draconian measures, but soon followed China’s methodology since it proved successful. The document adds:
„Even after the pandemic faded, this more authoritarian control and oversight of citizens and their activities stuck and even intensified.“
The last line is like a copy-paste of Snowden’s warning, and the chances are that blockchain and AI will play a role in this.
