Posted 11 May, 2022

The suspense is at its peak. The US consumer price index for April will be announced at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The FactSet consensus is 0.3% increase compared to the previous month and 8.1% over one year, which would mark a slight slowdown after an increase of 8.5% year on year for the month of March. Excluding food and energy, the CPI is expected to rise by 0.4% compared to March and by 6% over one year.

Note that the Atlanta Fed's inflation expectations index for the month of May, which measures one-year inflation expectations from the point of view of firms, will be communicated at 4 p.m.

The US Department of Energy's weekly report on domestic oil inventories for the week ending May 6 will be released at 4:30 p.m.

The US budget balance for April will be revealed at 8 p.m. (FactSet consensus of $216 billion in surplus, Bloomberg consensus of $200 billion).

Finally, Raphael Bostic, head of the Atlanta Fed, will speak during the day.
