CRYPTO EXCHANGES REPORTEDLY SAID CELEBRITIES WERE USERS

Dozens of South Korean high school students, and sometimes boys, involved in forced sexual acts and self-harm, have been filmed for years. The videos were transmitted via Telegram chat bots in exchange for cryptocurrency payments.

Dozens of victims have been found by Korean police after the video often featured the names and addresses of the girls.

After more than 5 million Koreans signed the petition on behalf of the man who led the blackmail group of girls and created the Telegram group, the police decided to reveal his identity. The 24-year-old criminal is called Cho Joo-bin.

Police also reported that more than 10,000 people used Telegram chats, and some paid more than $ 1,200 for cryptography. To date, the police are aware of 74 people, including 16 underage girls who have been exploited.

Journalists from the local media agency Kookmin Ilbo found about 25,000 users in 30 Telegram conversations.

According to other local media reports, up to 300,000 paying customers have used similar chats.

As he was moved away from a police station in Seoul, Cho said:

„I apologise to those who were hurt by me. […] Thank you for putting a brake on the life of a devil that could not be stopped.“

Nevertheless, he didn’t comment when reporters asked if he admitted to the allegations.

He is charged with abuse, threats and abuse, violations of the Sexual Violence Act, Child Protection Act and the Privacy Act.

Although the police have not yet confirmed this, there are reports that a local cryptocurrency operation monitored cryptocurrency operations and found that some of the paying participants were popular artists, professors, sports celebrities, as well as startups and company executives.

WHO IS CHO JU-BIN AND HOW DID THE CHATROOMS OPERATE?

The child pornography suspected is a 24-year-old man, nicknamed "Baksa," which means "doctor" or "guru." He moderated a Telegram chat, where videos of child abuse were broadcast in exchange for payments. Cho accused the audience of cryptography, which made it difficult for police to track and close chat rooms. However, given that South Korean law requires all cryptocurrency clients to undergo KYC / AML screening procedures, the platform can help authorities find participants and understand the magnitude of the event.

To date, 124 individuals involved in the case have been tracked by the police. Cho and 17 others were detained.

Korean newspaper Kookmin Ilbo reported that in each of the eight "ninth rooms" there were videos of three to four girls being blackmailed. The girls were enticed by chat operators who promised modeling work or maintenance

CRYPTO HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN PRAISED BY PEDOPHILE JEFFREY EPSTEIN

Although this is not a cryptocurrency issue, criminals are not the first to approve or praise Bitcoin and its brothers.

Billionin and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, praised for being a sex slave scandal involving sex trafficking among many other heinous crimes, praised Bitcoin and its underlying technology.

Interestingly, Joichi Ito, director of Media Lab MIT, was forced to resign last year after a New Yorker announced that he was trying to hide financial contributions from Epstein. But in addition to leading the MIT Lab, Ito also launched the Digital Currency Initiative (DCI) at MIT, helping Bitcoin survive some of the hardest days of 2015.

At a time when the Bitcoin nonprofit was facing "financial difficulties", DCI was constantly offering full-time Bitcoin developers, including Gavin Andresen, Corey Fields and Vladimir van der Laan.
