Posted 28 June, 2022

Rosfinmonitoring, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, is conducting about 400 financial investigations, and more than 20 criminal cases related to cryptocurrency have been initiated. This was stated by the director of the department, Yuri Chikhanchin, during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

“I would like to say a few words about the turnover of cryptocurrency. Unfortunately, this phenomenon continues to exist. And only on two foreign sites, two exchanges, several hundred thousand Russian citizens participate (in transactions worth) tens of billions. And we see that there are not only settlements, not only speculative transactions, but this is drug trafficking, financing of terrorism and extremism, and cybercrime, and so on,” Chikhanchin emphasized.

Earlier it became known that in 2021, 1531 court cases related to cryptocurrency and mining were opened in Russia. Criminal cases accounted for 62%. Most of them relate to drug trafficking.
