Localbitcoins: customers should not use Tor browser due to risks

Posted 11 September, 2019

Localbitcoins experts said that using the Tor browser significantly increases the risk of theft of bitcoins from wallets working as extensions. CEO Remitsy  Richard Bensberg noted that the program is often used to maintain privacy, but its administration has access to personal data of users.

''Using a Tor browser is not against LocalBitcoins’ Terms of Service, even though it is has not been recommended for security reasons,''  tweeted Localbitcoins.

Bensberg and other commentators doubted that the company was guided by good intentions for its users when publishing such a message since Tor is traditionally associated with the benefits of increased privacy when surfing the web.

Richard Bensberg noted that a similar vulnerability had previously been discovered in Firefox. If you take into account that Mozilla used the open-source Chrome, then the program from Google can also be dangerous. According to the expert, in the era of a huge number of scammers, it is best to switch to hardware wallets.
